Attached around the bottom and sides of the shield is a Blue scroll inscribed “VICTORIA PER JUSTITIAM” in Gold letters. Symbolism The insignia is a shield. At the center is a representation of Justice, the most well-known legal symbol, denoting that the central purpose of this organization is to strive for justice. Justice is depicted blindfolded to signify that it is blind to the race, creed, color, gender, or class of the people seeking it. Justice holds scales, another traditional symbol of law, representing the weighing of evidence and the balancing of interests. In her other hand she holds a fasces, a traditional symbol of legal authority. The use of the fasces symbolizes the United States Army Reserve Legal Command as the first command organization for Judge Advocate General Corps organizations in the Army Reserve. The colors of the insignia are blue and white, the branch colors of the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. The motto translates to “Victory With Justice.” Background The distinctive unit insignia was approved effective 16 September 2009. |
